What Does It Take?

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE REQUIREMENTS - OPTION I (CAREER FOCUS)

Option I is designed primarily for students who are pursuing a specific career program or major and who do not intend to transfer to a four-year university. Option I may also be used by transfer students. However, there are courses listed under Option I that are not transferable to the four-year universities and therefore transfer students who wish to use this option should see a GWC counselor for assistance in planning the most appropriate educational program.

Requirements:

  I. Completion of 60 college units from the following:
    A. 21 Unit General Education requirement in Areas A through E (see below).
  B. 18 Unit Area of Concentration requirement. (Already completed through your CA POST Basic Academy Training!)
    C. 21 Unit Electives requirement. (click here for elective exceptions)
  II. Overall grade point average of 2.0 ("C" average) with at least 2.0 earned at Golden West College.
  III. At least 12 (of the 60) units earned through course attendance at Golden West College.

Mathematics competency - Must satisfy one of the following:

  1. A Math Competency Test placement recommendation of Geometry (Math 020), or a higher Math course; or

  2. Completion of intermediate (2nd year) algebra in high school with a "C" grade or better; or

  3. Completion of one college course in mathematics (Mathematics 010-290).
